When Are Waterproof AirPods Coming Out?

If you’re an AirPods fan, you must have asked yourself that question more than once. As a matter of fact, AirPods fans have been wondering when waterproof AirPods are coming out for years. Well, nobody has been able to come up with a clear answer since Apple has been tight lipped on this matter.

Apple released the AirPods Pro in October 2019. Well, the latest model is not waterproof but that hasn’t stopped fans from continuing to dream of waterproof AirPods. So, they keep on asking Apple the same question.

When are waterproof AirPods coming out? Apple hasn’t yet confirmed their intention to release waterproof AirPods. However, given the large number of users requesting for such a feature, the company might release AirPods with advanced waterproofing sometime in 2021.

Apple Fans Need to Wait

While there is no official information to support this hypothesis, I’m sure Apple is aware there are plenty of waterproof earbuds on the market. While Apple fans don’t usually hurry to grab third-party products, the company should strive to offer them the best possible products.

The fact that 3rd generation AirPods are already water resistant confirms that Apple is working on improving water resistance in their audio hardware.

Waterproof AirPods are extremely useful when it’s raining or you accidentally spill water or liquid on them. As I said before, there are many waterproof earbuds available on the market and this fact alone should push Apple to add this feature to their AirPods as well.

All Your Questions Answered

Are AirPods water resistant? Apple’s 1st and 2nd AirPods generations are not waterproof or water resistant. On the other hand, the AirPods Pro (3rd generation) have a rating of IPX4 which means they are sweat and water resistant. Keep in mind the water resistance might decrease with time as a result of normal wear.

Can I use my AirPods in the shower? AirPods are not waterproof which means you can’t use them in the shower.  If you put them directly in the water stream or wear them when you’re wet, they’ll stop working.

Will sweat ruin AirPods? The 1st and 2nd generations of AirPods are not sweat-resistant. If you’re into heavy training and you sweat a lot, there will be plenty of sweat drops coming into direct contact with your earbuds which might make them unusable. The only sweat resistant AirPods are AirPods Pro (3rd generation) which are also IPX4 certified.

What happens if my AirPods get wet? If a few drops of water or other liquids get into your AirPods, the sound quality will be affected. Sound will be low and distorted. If water gets into the microphone, you won’t be able to make any phone calls since the people you’re calling won’t be able to hear you.

While there are no waterproof AirPods on the market, the 3rd generation AirPods Pro are sweat and water resistant. As always, the best solution is to avoid water damage in the first place. Otherwise, you’ll need to buy a new pair of AirPods.
