When Are Waterproof AirPods Coming Out? Nobody Knows

If you’re a fan of AirPods, you have likely asked yourself this question more than once. In fact, AirPods enthusiasts have been wondering about the release of waterproof AirPods for years.

However, Apple has remained tight-lipped on this matter, leaving fans without a clear answer.

Apple initially launched the AirPods Pro in October 2019. The second-generation AirPods Pro was subsequently released on September 23, 2022.

While the latest model is not waterproof, it hasn’t stopped fans from continuing to dream about waterproof AirPods.

Will Apple Make Waterproof AirPods?

Apple has not released any waterproof AirPods models. The company regularly updates its product lineup, and future iterations of AirPods may introduce waterproof or water-resistant features.

To stay informed about Apple’s product releases and announcements, it’s best to refer to official sources such as Apple’s website or announcements from the company itself.

Apple Fans Need to Wait

While there is no official information to support this hypothesis, I’m sure Apple is aware there are plenty of waterproof earbuds on the market.

While Apple fans don’t usually hurry to grab third-party products, the company should strive to offer them the best possible products.

The fact that 3rd generation AirPods are already water resistant confirms that Apple is working on improving water resistance in their audio hardware.

This feature comes in handy when it’s raining or you accidentally spill water or liquid on your AirPods.

As I said before, there are many waterproof earbuds available on the market and this fact alone should push Apple to add this feature to their AirPods as well.

If you’re interested in learning more about your AirPods, check out the answers to some of the most common questions AirPods users have about their devices.

Are AirPods Water-Resistant?

Apple’s 1st and 2nd AirPods generations are not waterproof or water resistant.

The AirPods Pro (3rd generation) model has a rating of IPX4 which means the buds are sweat and water-resistant.

Keep in mind the water resistance might decrease with time as a result of normal wear.

Can I Use My AirPods in the Shower?

AirPods are not waterproof which means you can’t use them in the shower.  If you put them directly in the water stream or wear them when you’re wet, they’ll stop working.

Will Sweat Ruin AirPods?

The 1st and 2nd generations of AirPods are not sweat-resistant. If you’re into heavy training and you sweat a lot, there will be plenty of sweat drops coming into direct contact with your earbuds which might make them unusable.

The only sweat-resistant AirPods are AirPods Pro (3rd generation) which are also IPX4 certified.

What Happens if My AirPods Get Wet?

If a few drops of water or other liquids get into your AirPods, the sound quality will be affected. The sound will be low and distorted.

If water gets into the microphone, you won’t be able to make any phone calls since the people you’re calling won’t be able to hear you.

Are AirPods Pro Cases Waterproof?

The MagSafe Charging Case for AirPods Pro (1st generation) and Wireless Charging Case for AirPods Pro (1st generation) are not water or sweat resistant.

However, Apple has introduced water and sweat resistance in the MagSafe Charging Case for AirPods (3rd generation), Lightning Charging Case for AirPods (3rd generation), and MagSafe Charging Case for AirPods Pro (2nd generation).

These cases are designed to be water and sweat-resistant, providing better protection against moisture.

Conclusion

While there are no waterproof AirPods on the market, the 3rd generation AirPods Pro are sweat and water-resistant.

As always, the best solution is to avoid water damage in the first place. Otherwise, you’ll need to buy a new pair of AirPods.
