Is the OnePlus 8 waterproof? Here’s what we know so far

As the company reveals more information on the upcoming OnePlus models, there is one question that’s on everybody’s lips.

Is the OnePlus 8 waterproof? There is official confirmation the OnePus 8 will be waterproof. Based on the specs and features of previous OnePlus models, the OnePlus 8 won’t be waterproof but it will definitely be water resistant to some extent and splash proof.

Most likely, the OnePlus 8 won’t bear any official IP rating certification. The company explained that the IP rating certification process costs money and that would have added an extra $30 to the overall cost of the phone.

The OnePlus 8, OnePlus 8T and OnePlus Pro should still work if you accidentally spill water and other liquids on them. However, keep in mind that if you submerge the OnePlus 8 in water even for a brief period and it still continues to function, some hardware components might be damaged.

There’s a slight difference

OnePlus never said their phones were water proof. They said OnePlus phones are water resistant. Water resistant is not the same as waterproof.

Water resistant means you can splash some water on the phone or use it briefly in light rain. Waterproof means that you can safely submerge the device.

The best solution is to keep your OnePlus 8 away from water since it’s not waterproof. Additionally, you can buy a waterproof case or pouch to seal your phone and keep water away.

OnePlus water damage is not covered by the warranty

It is worth mentioning the OnePlus warranty doesn’t cover water or liquid damage. This means you need to pay the full repair price if you decide to request for a repair. As always, prevention is better than cure. Try to keep your OnePlus 8 phone away from water as much as possible.
